The Cuperator 16 oz. Travel Mug is microwave safe and comes with a flip top lid that closes.
He likes that it goes in the microwave. Only thing is this one doesn't have a handle like the previous one.I like everything about it, the opening is not super large so that massive amounts of hot beverage are coming out at once, the hole to allow air to get in the mug so that it will disperse works well, I like the spill clip that is easy to open and close. My only complaint is that it's pretty smooth and if you fingers are at all damp (or cold) it may not be too easy to grip. I've only used it once so far (this morning) and so I only have one experience with it. This is NOT a mug that will keep your beverage hot all day -- I poured mine around 8:30 and by 10:30 it was only warm, but for my purposes, an hour to hour and a half is all I need to have it stay warm. Not sure it was worth the price when I found something similar at the dollar store (not insulated quite as well) for $1.00.So here is my coffee cup story. I lost my favorite coffee cup about 4 years ago (left it at the doctor's office). Had I known how "Ir-replaceable" that cup was, I would have gone back for it! So, I set out on a journey to find another coffee cup. Little did I know, this would be one long, bumpy, expensive journey. I purchased cups from stores like Starbucks, Wal-Mart, and Amazon. The cups all looked nice and even had good reviews, but I always found something lacking. My husband will attest to this fact, I am one of the pickiest coffee cup people known to mankind. It's true. None of the cups I purchased (to my husband's chagrin) made the cut. Finally, when all else failed, I resorted to sending my husband out for weekly purchases of McDonald's coffee. . . just for the cup! (my husband is a great guy). The McDonald's coffee cup met all my qualifications (except it deteriorated in a week). But, I really had no choice. The McDonald's cup would have to do. Then came the crushing blow. McDonald's switched to some generic version an insulated paper cup (i.e. JUNK). So now I had to commence my perfect coffee cup search all over again. As I went out to Amazon (my favorite shopping place) I scrolled through the endless photos of coffee cups, many which I had previously viewed over the years. I began to remember the features of my favorite coffee cup (ex. raised lip, no leak snap on lid, etc.). I took note that "The Cuperator" bore a striking resemblance to my favorite coffee cup. After placing three cups in my cart and analyzing each, I finally eliminated the others and chose The Cuperator. And Lord knows, I am SO GLAD I DID! Literally, this cup is EVERYTHING I hoped it would be! Raised lip on the lid, including a small hole in the center to allow the smooth flow of the drink. This is important to prevent the coffee from rushing to your lip and burning you. Do you know how many coffee lids do not have this feature? The lid also snaps down so you do not have to struggle trying to line up the threads and twist it on. Now I don't know if it is supposed to be microwavable, but I put mine in the microwave and I didn't see any sparks, so it seems microwavable to me. The handle is perfectly designed to allow the cup to fit into a car cup carrier and it keeps my coffee warm for a good hour. . .plenty of time for me to drink it. So, my journey to find the perfect coffee cup has finally come to a close. If you are like me and have been searching for that perfect cup too, The Cuperator may just be the cup you have been looking for. Hope this review helps (or at least entertains) someone. Cheers!Don't drop it, the handle might break (like mine). I liked it so much, I ordered another one.Update 3/20/16: The handle just broke on the replacement mug, just came loose from the body. This time I glued (both) handles with Loctite Super Glue and they are holding well.Update 8/6/22: Just received the latest version of this "cuperator." I guess they gave up on the handle due to so many complaints. That's ok since I've been using one of the old cups without the handle since it broke off so many times. The new handleless cup is similar to the old version with a couple of design changes. The lip of the cup is a little thicker making the top a little harder to snap on. I never had a problem with the old lid, it never leaked. The new version seems ok though. The cup appears to be a little thinner. It seems to be missing some insulation the old cup had. Probably doesn't matter much since the old cup never kept coffee hot very long anyway. That's what microwaves are for.I use a rubber sleeve on the cup I removed from another vendor's cup I didn't like. Enables a nice grip on the cup, but covers the red & white stripes. But that's okay. Don't know how long the paint will hold up on the cup, the old cup's paint didn't hold up well. Repetitive friction wore the paint in many places. So overall, I still like the cup mainly because it’s microwaveable and it doesn’t leak.Nice sized cup, but not ridiculously HUGE like many others. Tapers to a narrow bottom that fits easily in my car's non-adjustable cup holder - however I can see where that could make it tip-over easily, but I've never had a problem with that even on my work desk. Nice, plump, sturdy handle with enough room between the handle and the cup to be able to grab/hold it easily. Lid fits tight and the disc rotates over the drinking hole completely, so no leaks. The lid is also designed/shaped well so hot beverages can be drunk without splashing/getting burned. The best part: this thing is all plastic and microwave safe. It's extremely difficult to find a non-huge cup that can go in the microwave. Problem: I've lost the darned thing!! How can someone lose a car cup?!?! Whatever....happily buying a replacement!Only weakness I see is the glued on handle. Hope it stays on forever. Otherwise this is second best mug I've come across. The lip is thin - perfect for sipping hot. The lid snaps on tight as well as the sipping hole cover. Did not test water tightness but fairly confident that the assembly will stay together in most normal situations. I love the simplicity of it and how clean every part gets washed in the washer. The body is a bit thin compared to the best mug I had (disappeared) but ordered two and will order another pair. This size is for my family and I wish the seller had 21 oz version. I would buy 6 or so to last my life.
